Am I allowed to call you PE? Or...would you rather be Primrose?
It certainly looks interesting round here. I don't recognise too many other people

*smiles* For you, Ro -- I'll make an exception. If you want to call me by my initials, that's just fine. Yup, we certainly have an interesting (and friendly) bunch around here. Many folks have joined us from the Cafe, which is probably why you don't recognize them at the moment.

Your eyes are like my Mum's. Hers are normally a greeny colour, they then turn blue if she's really happy, grey if she's sad or tired and a dark green/brown when she's mad!

*smiles* It sure sounds that way, Daniel -- and I bet you tread lightly when you see the dark green / brown, don't ya? I love my "freaky eyes" -- they set me apart from the rest of my family (like being adopted didn't already). I actually look like the spitting image of my Dad, even if we share no genetic similiarities. Trust me when I say that you want to stay clear of me when they go iridescent blue-gray, as that means I'm probably about to lose it (which doesn't happen too often, as I'm pretty even-keeled -- but when it does happen -- watch out!).

They do say that children who grow up with people tend to look like them. They say that I have certain similarities to my step father... freaky! I think your eye thing is cool though. Im Irish and I dont have it... Some people are just lucky to get things like that! - As long as you dont think of it as a bad thing...

Green eyes with brown lines coming from my irises. Not hazel, way to green for that. They are very thin lines and not many of them. My dad on the other hand has the "freaky eyes". I'm not sure what their range is but I know they change from blue to green and back. I'm also not sure if it has anything to do with his moods. My siblings are all blue eyed. Mom's got green I think. I think my brother's tred on green sometimes, so maybe he has the "freaky" eyes too. Dad's got Irish in him somewhere way back along the lines, like maybe eight generations or something. McAfee is the last name . . . at least I think that's the Irish one.

I think (and Jeds, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) it's one of those possibly recessive genetic things and from the sounds of it, your brother may very well have inherited that particular gene from the Irish bloodline on your Dad's side of the family. That particular trait tends to be a Celtic (Irish, Scottish -- which is me) one more or less.
Sometimes it doesn't even manifest itself at all. Take my Dad's side of the family, for example. He's the oldest of 6 (3 boys, 3 girls, 3 blondes w/ blue eyes, 3 brunettes with brown eyes -- and it actually went blonde, brunette, blonde, etc.). Even though there's a great deal of Irish on my Grandma's side, none of the blondes have the "freaky eyes", as they may have gotten the eye color from my Grandpa's side -- which is German.
So though I look very much like my Dad at first glance, if you look at our eyes, they are totally different. His are the bright blue, whereas mine are a muted light blue and have green flecks in them (which are usually more prevelant when I'm worried about something or hurting -- either emotionally or physically). Even if I say I'm all right, if you know me well enough, my eyes will tell you a completely different story.

Oh trust me, it does! Especially if you can see me and know that my eyes do that. If you don't know, or can't see me, then it's a bit easier.

Mmm, I could prattle on about genetics for ages. It's all much more complicated then people think....for example, if both your parents are blond and have blue eyes....there is absolutely no guarantee that you'll be the same...especially if somewhere back in your ancestry there's a more dominant gene (such as the genes for brown hair and brown eyes are more dominant than those for blond hair and blue eyes.)
Anyway, yes, that particular Celtic trait can crop up anywhere down the line. And also, it's not necessarily seen in ALL Celtic blood...it's just typically unique to the Celtic line. It's not typically seen in blue eyed or green eyed...it's only those people who have blue/grey or blue/green or hazel/green (or green/hazel) eyes.
Also, a lot of people confuse hazel with brown in eyes. Brown is one colour (and the most dominant eye-gene within humans); Hazel however is used when describing people with eyes that are usually green with brown flicks or lines etc... Or the other way round. Also, eye colours that are too mixed up to identify properly are labeled as hazel...just to simplify things really.
Ok...I've gone off on one again.....*tones down prattle and leaves*

Thank you for the genetics prattle, Jeds. *smiles* I found it fascinating. Then again genetics and stuff like that has always interested me. So anytime you want to jump in with more prattle, feel free!
The licensing people apparently couldn't pinpoint my color on the day I got my driver's license, b/c they put mine down as hazel (the green flicks must've been a bit more predominant that day).

I always used to get into trouble in my French class because I would refuse to say what colour my eyes were. One day my teacher started screaming at me so I shouted back and told her to come look at my eyes and get her to tell me what colour they were and she couldn't. At first glance they look green but if you come closer they're more blue and if I am angry they go gray and when I am happy they are very blue. Sometimes I get hazel if I am confused about something and am thinking intensley about something. I think this is why all of my friends can read me like a book.

Try playing poker! Or any card game.....it's a real hinderance. I mean, I've got a great poker-face...I'm one of those people that can keep a dead-straight face without even really trying. But my eyes always give me away when they change.
