Oh, you most definitely should bring that one over, sweetie. It's an excellent piece. Just make sure you remember to put a "tissues required" warning on it.

Thanks, guys! Once the contest is over, I'll definitely bring "My Sister's Dying" over here. Oh, I HAD to tell you guys. This is definitely off-topic, but I'm SOOO excited about it! My baby brother David writes songs; he uses them for therapy and he's had quite a life between being an alchoholic (he's been dry for 5 years now), having a special needs son, getting divorced so he's raising his son Sam and his daughter Sophia on his own, and having my mom, who babysat the kids for him after the divorce, die a few years after the divorce. All of that could've sent him back to the bottle, but it didn't, thanks to his music. Well, when I heard the song he wrote for Mom a couple years after her death, I fell in love with it. I mentioned it at him when he was driving me and the kids to a family picnic. He had a CD of him and a friend playing guitars while David sang. My brother doesn't have much of a voice, but the music and words got to me and I loved every one. He was so impressed that the next time he saw me, he gave me a copy of the CD and whenever they came up with a new song, he'd have to call and play it for me. And every time the family got together, he always had a new CD for me, which I played a LOT to the point where I could sing along with them. Then he found out that a couple of our cousins also play guitar and they are *GOOD*! So they started getting together and just jamming and they made David's songs even better. Then, my nephew plays special-needs hockey (and is a star, I might add...) and my brother was talking to one of the other fathers and mentioned his music. It ends up that this guy, Mike, has done some singing at weddings and he has a *VOICE*! When he sang David's songs...WOW!! But of course, David had to find out what his Number One fan thought, so when I was at my dad's, David and Mike came over and sang some of his songs. Mike was impressed with the fact that I knew the songs enough to make requests and the fact that although I was sitting on a chair, with the music, I could not sit still. On the way home, they both agreed that they had something going. Well, they started getting together with the other guy and the cousins and after awhile they found a drummer and he made it even better! To top it off, one day my niece came downstairs in the basement where they were playing and she picked up a mike, started singing, and that girl rocks! She was only 7 (she's 8 now) and, well, wow! They finally got a site on myspace and people started writing to them asking if they could play. They ended up doing what they called "The Backyard Tour", including our annual family tour, when I *finally* got a chance to hear the whole band in person. AND they have promotional T-shirts now and my brother walked right up to me and dropped one on my lap, saying as their Number One fan, I had to have one! They even brought me upstage for my favorite song. Then, last night, they finally had their first gig, in a bar in a bowling alley! It was an absolute total blast and they were such a hit that they're sure they'll be back and maybe start playing elsewhere. They call it "The Out-of-the-Basement Tour". Last night, I *finally* got a chance to get a hold of their website so I can share PETE (the name of my brother's bulldog) with all of you. Here it is...enjoy! Music of PETE

Wow, that's awesome, Es. As for being off topic . . . it's your welcome thread, talking about anything you want. It's pretty much on topic if it's about you (or things that effect you). I'll try and check out the site later.

Thanks, Marlena! That's *kinda* the way I've looked at the Welcome Threads, but this was SO off-topic, that I figured I better introduce it that way. I hope you get a chance to hear the songs later on and see what you think. The first one, "Mother" is that song that David wrote for Mom after her death (it took him a couple years to write it, but I love it!) It's him singing and playing his guitar. The second one "I Don't Think So", is their favorite audience participation song and was recorded at one of their backyard concerts, so it's the whole band. David wrote this one about his wife, Sarah, when they were having problems, shortly before the divorce. The third one, "Serendipity" is also live, and I half-wish it wasn't, because my young niece is singing, too, but because the fans are singing, you can't hear her that well; I would've preferred just Mike and Sophie singing. This one was written when David had met a woman he had fallen in love and was considering marrying, but just wasn't sure if she could accept a divorced man with two children, including a special-needs child. He never did ask and they broke up shortly after he wrote it. Sad, but, oh, what a song! The fourth one, "River of Love", one of my all-time favorites, was written after David and Sophie made a trip to my mom's grave. It always makes me cry no matter how many times I heard it. Hope you all give them a try and all enjoy them.

YAY, Bri! You'll have to let me know what you think of the songs. I just talked with my brother and he admits that the sound quality isn't the great, but it gives you an idea of what they're like.
