Kernsux please don't be scared away. Piper is much too whiny and unsure of herself to be a true Mary Sue. She also lets others walk all over her too much at times. (At least in the earlier seasons). If Leo was a Gary Stu, the girls would take him much more as an authority figure, not so much an errand boy. Despite this, Mary Sue and Gary Stu mostly apply to made up characters. It is that all too perfect character, looks perfect, rich, powerful influenced, everybody in the story loves him or her for their money, looks, powers, influence, charisma and presents. This character would step into the story and suddenly become more important that then characters the story is supposed to be about. Oh and he or she would be romancing the character the author is most attracted to.
My Mary Sue would be an insanely popular, rich actress with more money then god! Chris or Cole (depending on which season I was writing for) would suddenly fall head over heals in love with her and forget all about their current girls. This character has never appeared in any of my stories and never will. If I did write her in, my readers would be sure to hate her. Mary Sue and Gary Stu are too perfect and have too much going for them and usually inspire vomiting in the readers.
As long as the focus still remains on the characters who the story is supposed to be about and not some new person you add, you should do fine. This doesn't mean you can't add new characters, just avoid spot light stealers and you will do just fine.

I am glad you prefaced that with after she became the leader of the charmed ones. I am definitely talking about early season Piper, the one who let her boss at Quake give her way too many hours and actually take restaurant work home with her. The Piper that let her class mates at the reunion intimidate her and make her feel inferior and the Piper who let her sisters sucker her into running the home owners meeting and the Piper that pretty much fell apart without Leo's help when one of her sisters was turned into a dog and other a banshee.
In the latter seasons, you are totally right. These kinds of things never would have happened.

I had to share this. I was replying to an email and somehow I thought of a story that I wrote a while back where the main character basically is me. At least she's supposed to me. To be honest, it's a loose fit. I had to laugh at some of those questions. No, she has no love interest so this, that, and the other question don't apply. She's twelve. No, she doesn't have my dream job. She doesn't have a job, unless you count baby-sitting, which she didn't really do. I maybe could have gotten some points (but not a lot) if some of the questions actually had relevance to the story, but frankly her musical tastes will never come into the story. She has no extrodinary powers. She's not the best at anything, not even close. Her book tastes (and I marked this one, though to be honest, she's more interested in Hans Christian Anderson than I ever will be) only come into play, because that's how she discovered the main story plot. She was putting away a book, the Complete Hans Christian Anderson Fairtails, and she was doing this in a room that looked just like my families old front room. Anyway, the point is, she's me and I got a five. Even if I stretched it and put in things that don't come up, so I don't know the answer, I might have gotten a ten or eleven. She's an anti-Mary Sue. Her name is Crystal (which I don't normally spell that way. I normal spell it Kristal.) There are so many things that don't come up because she's so young.

11-20 points: The Non-Sue. Your character is a well-developed, balanced person, and is almost certainly not a Mary Sue. Congratulations!
Your Mary Sue Score: 19
I did the test with Melanie and Kelly! both are characters of my season 9!
